This $661,061 Cooperative Agreement awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice's Office for Victims of Crime (CFDA 16.320 - Services for Trafficking Victims) supports a collaborative effort between the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, the Salvation Army's STOP-IT program, and the U.S. Attorney's Office to combat human trafficking in Cook County and Northern Illinois. The funding will allow the multi-disciplinary human trafficking task force to develop and strengthen its leadership, structure, and coordination; implement victim-centered, trauma-informed protocols and training; investigate and prosecute both sex and labor trafficking cases; and provide comprehensive support services to help trafficking survivors achieve safety, independence, and well-being. The three-year project, which commenced on October 1, 2024, aims to firmly establish a survivor-led subcommittee and formalize participation of community members to address labor trafficking.
