The Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Victims of Crime has awarded a $500,000 Cooperative Agreement under the Sexual Assault Forensic Examinations program (CFDA 16.053) to Providence Health & Services - Oregon to expand sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) services across six counties in Oregon. The 3-year project aims to increase community connections with SANE services by building partnerships with community-based sexual assault/domestic violence advocates. Key deliverables include: conducting an estimated 1,200 comprehensive medical forensic exams; co-locating and managing two hospital-based advocates at Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center; formalizing the integration of community-based advocates within the Providence forensic nurse examiner program; increasing the number and availability of SANEs; and developing a coordinated sexual assault resource team across the six counties. The project will also provide training and professional development for SANEs and engage culturally-specific organizations such as those serving the Latino/a population.
