About this award
The Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Bureau of Justice Statistics awarded a cooperative agreement totaling $619,910 to the Executive Office of the State of Utah (doing business as the Governor's Office of Planning and Budget) on July 1, 2026, under the NICS Act Record Improvement Program (CFDA 16.813).
The award funds criminal history record system improvements throughout Utah. The State of Utah Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Identification will research and update missing criminal dispositions, improve criminal history reporting and training, modernize historical records, process clean slate expungements, migrate expunged records into a new system, improve fingerprint and identification systems, enhance court data integration, and restore critical criminal history system functionality. These efforts target reduction of record backlogs, improved data sharing between agencies, and strengthened background check systems to support law enforcement agencies, courts, prosecutors, employers, and authorized agencies nationwide.
The award also supports Utah's statewide eProsecutor case management system through the Utah Prosecution Council. That project will renew 300 user licenses, support secure CJIS-compliant data storage, and partially fund project management oversight. The eProsecutor system enables prosecutors and authorized staff to securely manage criminal cases, electronically file documents, improve statutory reporting, and share case information across jurisdictions in real time.
Performance occurs in Salt Lake City, Utah, with a period of performance from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2028.
