Description
The mississippi department of public safety (MDPS) will use FY 2025 consolidated national criminal history improvement program funds to implement electronic court dispositions within the mississippi criminal history system (MCHS). This initiative will complete the modernization of the statewide disposition reporting process by transitioning from paperbased workflows to automated electronic submissions. The project will reduce manual data entry, improve the accuracy and timeliness of criminal history records, and eliminate the risk of future disposition backlogs. Proposed project activities include software development, system testing, and full integration with the mississippi electronic courts system. State, local, and other law enforcement agencies will gain faster access to complete and accurate criminal history records. Courts and clerks offices will benefit from reduced manual data entry and fewer redundant reporting steps. The MDPS will use funds towards software upgrades for themchs. This will keep the MCHS secure and available to statewide and national partners that rely on the information passing in, out, and through IT. The MDPS will use funding for bulk disposition scanning. Previous nchip funding was received to enhance bulk disposition scanning process into the MCHS; however, the continued receipt of paper dispositions remains a major source of inefficiency. The MDPS will use funding for the procurement of software modules to enhance nibrs reporting, improve communication with statewide law enforcement agencies, and improve audits. The MDPS will also use funding to procure twenty-three livescan units for local arresting agencies. This will improve the accuracy of arrest records and decrease the time IT takes records to get into the states automated fingerprint information system.
