About this award
The Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Bureau of Justice Statistics awarded the Michigan State Police a cooperative agreement for $2.119 million on July 1, 2026, under the National Criminal History Improvement Program (CFDA 16.554).
Michigan State Police will use the funding to enhance the accuracy, quality, timeliness, and accessibility of criminal history data and related records through seven initiatives: regular record quality audits, record backlog reduction, open case record updates for concealed pistol licensing applicants, record completion for arrest incidents with missing data, establishment of statewide booking standards and initiative monitoring, technology enhancement for livescan fingerprinting devices at local agencies, and data management training within Michigan State Police, the courts, and other reporting agencies.
