About this award

This $1,116,629 Cooperative Agreement awarded by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) under the National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP, CFDA 16.554) will enable the Kansas Executive Office of the Governor to provide sub-grants to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI). The funding will support the KBI's efforts to: 1) continue entering all manually submitted case filing documents, 2) synchronize criminal record databases in the state's central repository, and 3) improve the content and completeness of criminal records statewide and nationally. This work aims to process the backlog of dispositions and source documents to provide more comprehensive information to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) for firearm purchases, pre-sentence investigations, and employment/licensing decisions. The award period is from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026. The KBI, as the sub-grantee, will be responsible for executing these criminal history record improvement initiatives.
