About this award
The Community Oriented Policing Services Program of the Department of Justice awarded a $150,000 cooperative agreement to the International Association of Chiefs of Police on October 1, 2025, under the Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act (CFDA 16.070) to administer technical assistance and develop social wellness resources for law enforcement officers.
The recipient will continue operation of the LEMHWA Community of Practice technical assistance framework, delivering peer learning, virtual events, and resource sharing to LEMHWA grantees. The award funds two new deliverables addressing officer social wellness. The first is a five-part short-form video series titled "Conversations in Connection and Culture," with each episode 5–10 minutes long, featuring law enforcement professionals, mental health experts, and community stakeholders discussing peer support, team dynamics, personal relationships, and community engagement. Each episode will be accompanied by discussion guides for use in roll call trainings, wellness meetings, and peer support sessions. The second deliverable is a set of social wellness briefs—concise, visually engaging resources designed for display in shared agency spaces that highlight actionable strategies for improving communication, fostering inclusion, and building supportive workplace cultures. Both resources will be integrated into the existing LEMHWA technical assistance framework and disseminated through digital platforms, professional publications, and national conferences to reach LEMHWA grantees and the broader law enforcement community.
Performance occurs in Alexandria, Virginia, with a period of performance from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026.
Description
Funding will support lemhwa grantees in implementing sustainable mental health and wellness strategies that improve officer well-being through the continued administration of the lemhwa community of practice (COP) technical assistance framework, which includes peer learning, virtual events, and resource sharing. In addition to the lemhwa COP, the project will introduce two new deliverables that address a critical but underexplored area of officer wellness: social wellness. The first deliverable is a short-form video series titled conversations in connection and culture. This five-part series will feature law enforcement professionals, mental health experts, and community stakeholders discussing key aspects of social wellness, including peer support, team dynamics, personal relationships, and community engagement. Each episode will be 510 minutes long and accompanied by discussion guides to support use in roll call trainings, wellness meetings, and peer support sessions. The second deliverable is a companion set of social wellness briefs. These concise, visually engaging resources will reinforce the video content and serve as practical tools for daily use. Designed for display in shared agency spaces, the briefs will highlight actionable strategies for improving communication, fostering inclusion, and building supportive workplace cultures. Together, the video series and briefs will help normalize conversations about wellness, reduce stigma, and promote a culture of connection and resilience. These resources will be integrated into the existing lemhwa technical assistance framework to ensure broad dissemination and adoption. Outreach will include digital platforms, professional publications, and national conferences, reaching both lemhwa grantees and the broader law enforcement community.
