The national fraternal order of police foundation (FOP) blue family focus initiative will serve as a nationwide training, networking, and support program for family members of law enforcement officers

Designed to supplement the power in peers program already in existence, blue family focus will add an additional facet to the development of networks of mental health and wellness support for law enforcement officers and their families. Power in peers is a national peer support training program designed specifically for law enforcement. Blue family focus will provide related but separate training for families of law enforcement, incorporating principles and topics addressed in the power in peers curriculum. The alignment of the two training programs is anticipated to further expand the impact of each, as a consistent language of wellness is carried from workplace to home life. In addition to classroom training which will educate families about strategies for increasing wellness within their own family units, the blue family focus program will incorporate a number of other tools and resources for law enforcement families. In cooperation with the national fraternal order of police auxiliary, the national FOP will develop the blue family focus initiative to work with existing family support networks, growing those already existing while initiating new family support networks where none currently exist. The project is intended to have nationwide reach, with teams of officers and their family members learning about mental health and wellness alongside each other, while building support networks within their agencies, their communities, their regions, and states.
