The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 4 awarded a $500,000 Cooperative Agreement under the Brownfields Multipurpose, Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund, and Cleanup Cooperative Agreements program (CFDA 66.818) to the City of South Fulton, Georgia, effective July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2029. The agreement funds comprehensive brownfield assessment and remediation planning activities to address real properties where expansion, development, or reuse may be complicated by the presence of hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants. No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
Under this cooperative agreement, the City of South Fulton will conduct Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments on six properties, develop site-specific cleanup plans and alternatives analyses for four sites, and create four planning documents to support brownfields revitalization. The recipient will also competitively procure qualified environmental professionals to direct on-site environmental activities, facilitate eight community meetings to ensure stakeholder engagement, and submit quarterly progress reports through the EPA's Assessment, Cleanup and Redevelopment Exchange System (ACRES). These assessment-related activities, authorized under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) Section 104(k)(2), are designed to benefit residents, business owners, and stakeholders in and near South Fulton by identifying contamination and establishing pathways for successful site redevelopment.
