The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 4 awarded $1.996 million to the City of Lake Alfred, Florida under the Brownfields Multipurpose, Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund, and Cleanup Cooperative Agreements program (CFDA 66.818) effective July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2029. This funding authorizes remediation activities under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) Section 104(k)(3) as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The cooperative agreement will support the cleanup of one brownfield site—real property where expansion, development, or reuse may be complicated by the presence of hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants.
Key deliverables include site remediation activities, procurement and direction of a qualified environmental professional to conduct environmental site assessments, development of a community involvement plan and administrative record, and quarterly reporting through the EPA's Assessment, Cleanup and Redevelopment Exchange System (ACRES). Anticipated outcomes include completion of one brownfield cleanup alternatives analysis, hosting of three community meetings, and submission of sixteen quarterly progress reports over the performance period. The award includes no subawards, and project benefits will extend to residents, business owners, and stakeholders in the City of Lake Alfred.
