EPA Region 10 awarded a $2 million cooperative agreement to ST George Tanaq Corp on October 1, 2025, under the Brownfields Multipurpose, Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund, and Cleanup Cooperative Agreements program (CFDA 66.818) to conduct brownfields assessment and revitalization activities in St. George, other areas of St. George Island, and Umnak Island, Alaska.
ST George Tanaq Corp will conduct ten Phase I and ten Phase II environmental site assessments, hold ten community meetings, develop six site-specific cleanup plans and analyses of brownfield cleanup alternatives, and develop seven planning documents to initiate brownfields revitalization. The recipient will competitively procure and direct a qualified environmental professional to carry out environmental site activities, and will submit twenty quarterly progress reports and final accomplishment reports to EPA through the Assessment, Cleanup and Redevelopment Exchange System (ACRES).
The agreement funds eligible assessment-related activities authorized under CERCLA Section 104(k)(2) and is supported through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). The period of performance runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2030. No sub-awards are included in this agreement. The funding will benefit residents, business owners, and stakeholders in and near the target areas in Alaska.
