About this award

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 4 awarded the City of North Port, Florida a $2.875 million Cooperative Agreement on June 1, 2025, under the Congressionally Mandated Projects program (CFDA 66.202) to implement a Sewer Vacuum Station Installation Project. The project, mandated through the 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act, will construct a vacuum sewer collection system facility and install approximately 1,800 linear feet of 8-inch polyvinyl chloride (PVC) force main piping, along with 4-inch, 6-inch, 8-inch, and 10-inch vacuum mains extending to approximately 200 properties within the city. The project also includes approximately 420 linear feet of 6-inch gravity service sewer lateral stub-outs and associated infrastructure connections to the city's municipal sewer system.

The anticipated deliverables include connecting 200 properties in the Blue-Ridge Salford North neighborhood to the municipal sewer system and removing existing septic tanks from affected properties. Associated activities encompass pavement, grading, and drainage improvements necessary to complete the sewer system connections. The primary outcomes are the elimination of 200 septic systems and expansion of municipal wastewater infrastructure capacity, which will improve groundwater and surface water quality in the project area. The project performance period extends through June 30, 2027, with no sub-awards identified in this assistance agreement.
