About this award
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 6 awarded a $32.7 million Cooperative Agreement to the Coastal Protection & Restoration Authority (CPRA) of Louisiana on November 1, 2025, under the Geographic Programs – Coastal Wetlands Planning Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) program (CFDA 66.124). This award funds Phase II of the Port Fourchon Marsh Creation Project, located in Terrebonne Basin, Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, with an anticipated completion date of October 31, 2030.
Under this agreement, CPRA will deliver coastal wetland restoration services through the creation of approximately 445 acres and nourishment of 98 acres of marsh habitat using hydraulically dredged sediment from Belle Pass. The project incorporates an adaptive management approach by constructing earthen containment dikes that will be strategically gapped within three years of implementation to enhance tidal exchange and estuarine organism access. These restoration activities align with CWPPRA program objectives to restore degraded wetland ecosystems, increase protection from storm surge and flooding, and safeguard critical infrastructure and communities throughout Louisiana's Gulf Coast region. No sub-awards are included in this assistance agreement.
