About this award

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 6 awarded a $38.27 million Cooperative Agreement to the Coastal Protection & Restoration Authority (CPRA) of Louisiana under the Geographic Programs – Coastal Wetlands Planning Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA, CFDA 66.124) program on September 1, 2025. The award funds Phase II of the Reggio Marsh Creation and Hydrologic Restoration Project (BS-0043) in St. Bernard Parish, with an ultimate completion date of August 31, 2030. No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.

Under this award, CPRA will implement coastal restoration activities to create and nourish approximately 519 acres of marsh habitat near Reggio, Louisiana, in areas historically classified as marshland but currently dominated by open water. Project activities include hydraulic dredging of sediment from Lake Levy as a borrow source, construction of interim training and temporary containment dikes to be gapped within three years to facilitate tidal exchange and estuarine organism access, and installation of a sediment retention terrace to protect existing marsh. Upon completion, the restored marsh acreage will enhance hurricane and flood defense capabilities for Louisiana residents and communities, representing a strategic intervention under CWPPRA's ecosystem-based coastal restoration framework.
