SPECIFICALLY, TO IMPLEMENT ITS PROJECT, WHICH WILL SUPPORT COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, PARTICIPATION, AND CAPACITY BUILDING EFFORTS FACILITATING THE ABILITY OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS, RESIDENTS, AND ORGANIZATIONS TO ADVOCATE FOR THEMSELVES AND TAKE ACTIONS TO PROVIDE MEANINGFUL INPUT TO ADVANCE ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE TO IMPROVE THE ENVIRONMENT, CLIMATE, AND PUBLIC HEALTH IN HOUSTON, TEXAS. COALITION OF COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS WILL CONDUCT PUBLIC OUTREACH AND EDUCATION AROUND CREOSOTE CONTAMINATION AND THE UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD HOUSTON WOOD PRESERVING WORKS SITE. THE RECIPIENT WILL HOST A COMMUNITY FORUM, CONDUCT AN EDUCATIONAL TOUR, HOST FIVE EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS, DEVELOP COMMUNITY NAVIGATORS, AND DISTRIBUTE EDUCATIONAL BROCHURES AND FACT SHEETS TO THE COMMUNITY.ACTIVITIES:ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED INCLUDE HOSTING A COMMUNITY FORUM ON CREOSOTE CONTAMINATION; CONDUCTING AN EDUCATIONAL TOUR THROUGH AREAS WHERE CREOSOTE CONTAMINATION IS PREVALENT; HOSTING FIVE EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS ON CREOSOTE AND THE UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD HOUSTON WOOD PRESERVING WORKS SITE; DEVELOPING COMMUNITY NAVIGATORS TO ACT AS LIAISONS BETWEEN FACILITATORS, THE COMMUNITY, AND COMMUNITY LEADERS ON THE CREOSOTE ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE; AND DISTRIBUTING EDUCATIONAL BROCHURES AND FACT SHEETS TO THE COMMUNITY ON CREOSOTE CONTAMINATION.SUBRECIPIENT:NO SUBAWARDS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT.OUTCOMES:IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT THIS PROJECT WILL RESULT IN THE FOLLOWING DELIVERABLES: ONE COMMUNITY FORUM CONDUCTED, ONE DIGITAL STORYTELLING ACTIVITY CONDUCTED, ONE EDUCATIONAL TOUR CONDUCTED, FIVE COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS CONDUCTED, COMMUNITY NAVIGATORS DEVELOPED, 2,000 EDUCATIONAL BROCHURES AND FACT SHEETS DISTRIBUTED, AND CONTENT PUBLISHED ONLINE ABOUT CREOSOTE CONTAMINATION. EXPECTED OUTCOMES OF THE PROJECT INCLUDE INCREASED AWARENESS OF THE HOUSTON COMMUNITY OF CREOSOTE CONTAMINATION, ITS SOURCES, AND ITS IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT AND HUMAN HEALTH; INCREASED ENGAGEMENT BY THE HOUSTON COMMUNITY IN MEETINGS, WORKSHOPS AND EVENTS IN CONNECTION TO ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES; AND INCREASED ENVIRONMENTAL ADVOCACY BY THE HOUSTON COMMUNITY ON CREOSOTE CONTAMINATION AND ITS IMPACT ON PUBLIC HEALTH. THE INTENDED BENEFICIARIES INCLUDE RESIDENTS OF HOUSTON, TEXAS.
