About this award

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 8 awarded a Congressionally Mandated Projects (CFDA 66.202) Cooperative Agreement of $1,436,250 to the City of Trinidad on August 7, 2025, for implementation of a drinking water infrastructure improvement project. The project encompasses replacement, repair, and improvement of drinking water transmission lines across four areas within Trinidad's drinking water system, with a completion date of December 31, 2026. Specific deliverables include replacement of a broken 12-inch cast iron water main with a 12-inch C-900 steel-encased pipe, upgrading a 2-inch galvanized waterline with a new 6-inch C-900 pipe, reconnection of water service lines to a newer 18-inch ductile iron transmission line, and installation of a new 8-inch C-900 polyvinyl chloride pipe.

The project is designed to eliminate dead-end water lines, prevent leaks from aging infrastructure, reconnect one of three main looping systems connecting the north and south side water storage tanks, eliminate the need for state highway shutdowns during water line repairs, and provide system redundancy to prevent service interruptions. The anticipated benefits extend to residents, households, and businesses throughout the City of Trinidad's water system service area. No sub-awards are included under this assistance agreement.
