About this award

Environmental Protection Agency Region 8 awarded a $1.6 million Cooperative Agreement to the Town of Superior on May 6, 2026, to implement drinking water infrastructure improvements under the Congressionally Mandated Projects program (CFDA 66.202), as directed in the 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act.

The Town of Superior will execute a construction workplan centered on water treatment plant improvements, specifically upgraded residual handling systems. The project targets reduced residual disposal hauling trips, lower greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions, decreased metals discharges to the environment, and improved control of technologically enhanced naturally occurring radioactive material through capture and dewatering of residuals. Water recovered from residuals processing will be recycled for reuse in lieu of disposal transport, with anticipated annual water savings of approximately two million gallons. The project includes no sub-recipients.

Performance runs from May 6, 2026, through May 5, 2028, with work performed in Superior, Colorado 80027. The intended beneficiaries are residents of the Town of Superior.
