Ccdx-2026 - child care disaster relief funds

The Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families awarded Big Sandy Rancheria $400,000 on October 1, 2025, under the Child Care Disaster Relief program (CFDA 93.489), a block grant to support child care recovery in areas affected by major disasters and emergencies declared under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act.

Big Sandy Rancheria, a federally recognized Indian tribe located in Auberry, California, receives the funds as a Tribal lead agency administering the Child Care and Development Fund program. The award supports necessary expenses directly related to major disasters and emergencies occurring in 2023 and 2024. Allowable uses include construction, renovation, and alteration of child care facilities; replacement of materials, supplies, furnishings, vehicles, and equipment; supply building for child care; mental health consultation; quality improvement activities; and direct services.

The period of performance runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2030. Performance occurs in California. An environmental impact assessment is required if Big Sandy Rancheria proposes to use funds for construction or major renovation. Federal interest in renovated, repaired, or rebuilt facilities does not extend beyond ten years; federal interest provisions do not apply to privately-owned family child care homes. This funding constitutes one-time emergency disaster assistance, and renewal is not expected.
