The Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families awarded $203,410.29 to the Quartz Valley Indian Reservation under the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CFDA 93.575) on October 1, 2025. The award is effective through September 30, 2028 and serves the tribe's child care and early childhood development initiatives in California.
The Child Care and Development Block Grant is the primary federal funding source enabling tribes to provide child care subsidies primarily through vouchers or certificates to families with low income, and to improve child care quality for both subsidized and unsubsidized children. The Quartz Valley Indian Reservation, a federally recognized tribe located in Siskiyou County, California, with approximately 351 enrolled members, designated itself as the lead agency responsible for developing and implementing a three-year Child Care and Development Fund plan that meets federal certifications and assurances under the CCDBG Act. The tribe must hold at least one public hearing no earlier than nine months before the plan becomes effective and coordinate service provision with other federal, state, and local child care and early childhood development programs.
