Description
These specialized units focus on drug and violent crime investigations in coeur dalene and kootenai county, idaho, extending their efforts to the greater spokane area, including liberty lake, spokane valley, and spokane. The CAT team collaborates with the U.S. Marshals office to apprehend violent offenders, while the opioid task force, a newly formed unit, conducts opiate-related investigations, including fentanyl cases, in partnership with the CAT team and a DEA task force attached to the idaho state police. The acquisition of mobile radios will enhance these teams ability to conduct in-field investigations safely and effectively. The radios will facilitate interoperable communication across local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, as well as fire and EMS services when necessary. Their secure, encrypted channels will protect sensitive information, including personally identifiable data. Additionally, mobile radios will enable real-time communication in areas where portable radios lack sufficient range, ensuring officer safety and operational efficiency in high-risk environments. These radios are designed to function in challenging conditions, such as locations with poor cellular coverage or limited repeater access. Their integration will support coordinated responses during dynamic situations, such as arrests, multi-agency operations, and court-ordered search warrants. The improved communication will allow for the sharing of critical information, including suspect descriptions and crime scene updates, ensuring rapid response and effective collaboration. By addressing gaps in communication capabilities, the mobile radios will bolster the effectiveness of the CAT and opioid task force, contributing to the successful investigation and apprehension of individuals involved in drug-related and violent crimes. This investment supports officer wellness and safety, reduces operational risks, and strengthens public safety in coeur dalene and the surrounding areas.
