Description
There are two goals that we will achieve with the money from this grant which will boast updated training for officers of the ceres police department and will lower potential civil liability for the city of ceres. The first of the two goals is related to improving/enhancing the performance of our canine unit. The current budget addresses monthly trainings for this unit, however IT does not address the need of these officers attending a working k-9 conference put on by the western states police canine association in 2025. This conference provides a forum for the exchange of current and relevant issues, including the development of innovative techniques, methods of operations, current equipment trends, and updated legislation effecting the deployment of the canine. This training is designated to educate the members of the team in safe tactical procedures with the canines and will help to reduce the liability to the city of ceres in civil litigation. We would use some of the allotted money to help offset the cost of lodging/per diem and overtime which would be generated by this conference. The second goal is related to improving/enhancing the performance of our crisis negoation team which is comprised of officers who are trained in negotiating with persons who are in crisis. Although these officers train quarterly, we would like to send them to the conference put on by the california association of hostage negotiators being held in 2025. This training is designed to increase the proficiency of the crisis negotiation team by examining and debriefing prior crisis situations. This training allows the membes to discuss in depth each situation and IT's outcome. The training is also comprised of recent court decisions related to the actions of the crisis negotiation teams. This training will give our officers some more tools to use in critical situations and people in crisis. This type of training will also deminish civil liablity for the city of ceres.
