Description
The byrne state crisis intervention program (byrne scip) strategy/funding will be used to help units of local government provide and enhance funds for antiviolence programs, mental health courts and drug courts to fight the drug epidemic and violent crime we are experiencing. In louisiana there were 26,078 violent crimes reported in 2021, or 564 for every 100,000 people, the highest violent crime rate among the 41 states with available data. Louisiana ranks fifth in the nation when IT comes to domestic violence deaths. Statistics reveal 66% of domestic violence victims in louisiana are killed with a firearm. We will work to strengthen our domestic violence courts and protective order programs. Louisiana currently supports domestic violence courts, and mental health courts. Support is also given to smart policing and smart supervision programs that focus on combating gun violence, enforcing existing firearms laws, and improving the process for ensuring that persons prohibited from purchasing guns are prevented from doing so, by enhancing reporting to the FBI's nics. These projects and others identified by the crisis intervention advisory board (CIAB) will be funded over the 4-year grant period. Subawards will be issued post award through the GAM process (1) formation and documentation of the crisis intervention advisory board and (2) BJA's approval of the program plan and removal of the withholding condition. The GAM will summarize the selection process, description of the subawards, award amounts, project period and the subaward budget.
