Description
As the state administering agency (SAA) for the state of georgia for the byrne JAG grant program, the criminal justice coordinating council (cjcc) will be coordinating and managing byrne state crisis intervention program funds upon award. In coordination the georgia statistical analysis center (SAC) and the crisis intervention advisory board will assist in determining the best use of funds for the state of georgia to most effectively address and reduce gun violence. After BJA approval, cjcc, in partnership with other state and local agencies, will work to implement crisis intervention programs throughout the state. The state of georgia will utilize a diverse crisis intervention advisory board (advisory board) to inform and guide georgia's gun violence reduction programs/initiatives. This advisory board will include representatives from law enforcement, the community, courts, prosecution, behavioral health providers, victim services, and legal counsel, most of which are currently involved in cjcc leadership decision-making. The criminal justice coordinating council manages several grant programs and is engaged in activities that are related to the priorities of the byrne scip program; among these programs are the law enforcement training program, georgia accountability court program, and the project safe neighborhoods program. Using this existing infrastructure, the council will seek to coordinate these programs with the planning efforts related to the byrne scip program. Georgia's federal allocation for scip FY 2022-2023 formula grant is $7,488,436. Cjcc plans to use this amount to support multiple initiatives including law enforcement, prosecution, and courts at the state level as well as crime reduction projects at the local level. Georgia may also use this grant to support community-based violence intervention and prevention programs throughout the state.
