North carolina 2021 prea JAG penalty project

The Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Bureau of Justice Assistance awarded $149,192 to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (CFDA 16.738) on October 1, 2021 for completion by September 30, 2025. The Block Grant funding will support accessibility improvements for educational materials and audited facilities to ensure the agency's compliance with the National Standards to prevent sexual abuse as established by the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). Specifically, the grant funds will replace damaged or deteriorated signage and materials educating offenders on reporting methods. The funding will also support facility modifications required to meet PREA audit standards based on findings from the Department of Justice certified auditors. As a sub-awardee, the North Carolina Department of Public Safety will directly oversee delivery of these PREA compliance products and services.
