Description
The U.S. Army corps of engineers kansas city district has the requirement to fulfil adverse impact factors for riverine systems requirements as stated in the april 2014 updated environmental assessment, finding of no significant impact & clean water act section 404 (b)(1) evaluation. The swope park industrial area is a flood damage reduction project located on the left descending bank of the blue river. The 50-acre site is downstream of 272 square miles of the blue river drainage, most of which is urbanized. The 7,000 foot long floodwall and levee system, interior drainage system and detention pond will provide critical flood risk reduction and ensure continued economic viability of this area. All practicable measures to avoid and or minimize adverse environmental impacts have been incorporated into the project design. The project would result in the clearing of 6.4 acres of riparian vegetation and filling of 0.3 acre of wetland adjacent to the blue river. These impacts are considered unavoidable and therefore require appropriate mitigation. Using the missouri stream mitigation guidelines this equates to 454 debits.
