Mitsubishi Chemical Carbon Fiber & Composites Inc. was awarded a firm fixed price purchase order by the U.S. Army Materiel Command's TACOM Life Cycle Management Command on January 31, 2023, for the delivery of 40,000 pounds of fiberglass roving with a contract ceiling value of $1.142 million. The contract, which is not set-aside designated, requires delivery to Irvine, California, with an ultimate completion date of January 30, 2024. The fiberglass roving will be delivered in accordance with approved technical specifications and is intended to support 120MM M256 cannon production efforts at Watervliet, New York. This purchase order aligns with the pre-solicitation notice posted in November 2022, which specified a twelve-month period of performance for the delivery of this composite material.
This award continues an established relationship between Mitsubishi Chemical and TACOM Life Cycle Management Command, which has issued the contractor numerous firm fixed price purchase orders over the past four years ranging from approximately $140,000 to over $1 million for fiberglass roving deliveries. Beyond its prime contractor role with the Department of Defense, Mitsubishi Chemical also serves as a subcontractor providing carbon fiber tow and other composite materials to major defense primes including General Dynamics Mission Systems Inc., Applied Research Associates Inc., and others in support of armor and composite component programs.
