Description
Not only do hurricanes present emergency preparedness challenges, but significant flooding can occur due storm surges and other significant wind and weather events. However, hurricane forecasting is still an imperfect science, making the unexpected landfall of a strong hurricane a real possibility. Over the last twenty years, US army corps of engineers advanced circulation (adcirc) fully nonlinear hydrodynamic model has been used extensively for coastal storm surge modeling applications. As a complement to this flooding model, worldwinds, INC. Developed "stormwinds", a proprietary wind analysis scheme to accurately forecast hurricane winds in the affected area and to more precisely drive the storm surge model.
