Description

Quad FCC testbed integration into NASA larc S SAFETI lab 1 introduction the assessment environment (AE) developed for the verification and validation for complex systems (VVFCS) project at NASA armstrong flight research center (AFRC) was developed and built by west virginia high tech consortium (WVHTC) foundation during fiscal year (FY) 2010 and delivered on schedule at the beginning of FY 2011 under NASA contract NND10WV01B with funding from the american reinvestment and recovery act (ARRA). The quad FCC testbed project at NASA larc is a subset of the AFRC assessment environment, and is being conducted as a collaborative research effort between both centers. The core capability of the AE is the presence of a flight control computer (FCC) module in a testing platform, which allows researchers to evaluate flight safety concepts on equipment which is representative of avionics systems used on modern aircraft. In march 2012, one FCC module was transferred to larc from AFRC for evaluation. The FCC was determined to be an excellent foundation for the development of an integrated ground test facility promoting the application of emerging analytical techniques and technologies to future air/space systems. IT was also determined that the most useful configuration for research would require a quadraplex system, and avionics grade networking and operating systems. Thus, between march 2012 and may 2014, larc procured three additional FCC modules (REF order # NND13WV03T for $104, 496), an upgraded time-triggered ethernet system (REF PO # NNL13AA60P for $37,980) and an vxworks arinc-653 real-time operating system (REF PO # S NN12AC61P/ $16,700, NNL14AC28P/ $61,280) in order to develop the desired core capability and more closely duplicate capabilities available at AFRC. This capability at larc is referred to as the quad FCC testbed. To fully realize IT S potential as an avionics research tool to improve the performance and reliability of flight-critical systems, the quad FCC testbed needs to be integrated into larc S systems and airframe failure emulation testing and integration (SAFETI) laboratory. The current quad FCC testing platform at larc currently does not have the capability to interface to the various types of avionics subsystems or the high fidelity flight simulations in SAFETI lab, and will require additional hardware integration and software development in order to achieve this capability. This statement of work (SOW) describes the work required to complete the baseline integration of the quad FCC testbed into SAFETI lab. 2 scope this SOW will cover the tasks required to integrate the quad FCC testbed into NASA larc S SAFETI lab. The first task will entail the procurement of a single board computer compatible with the existing SAFETI lab input/output (I/O) infrastructure that also includes a time-triggered ethernet (TTE) interface. The second task will entail developing software applications, compatible with the vxworks real-time operating system, that will configure all required SAFETI lab I/O subsystems and manage real-time data transfer between the quad FCC testbed and SAFETI lab. The resulting system will allow integrated use of the quad FCC testbed with all existing avionics research subsystems in SAFETI lab. 3 objectives this SOW describes the tasks required to integrate the quad FCC testbed into NASA larc S SAFETI lab. The resulting system will allow integrated use of the quad FCC testbed with all existing avionics research subsystems in SAFETI lab including high-fidelity flight simulations. This integrated system will address the lack of a state-of-the-art avionics testbed providing researchers the means to evaluate concepts and algorithms designed to improve the performance and reliability of flight-critical systems. 4 contractor tasks 4.1 task 1 the contractor shall provide to NASA larc a VME-based single board computer (SBC), functionally identical to the SBC S used in TH
