Description
Introduction/background: the testing described by the statement of work (SOW) is in support of a risk assessment commissioned by the NASA engineering and safety center (nesc). The described failure analyses shall be performed on a meteoroid impact site in a harness. This device type is used in the james webb space telescope. Testing shall be performed in a manner similar to that performed in late 2006 and early 2007 for the sspts project at JSC by the contractor. Description of tasks to be performed: the contractor shall provide the necessary manpower and expertise to perform the following: there are up to 8 damage sites created by individual hypervelocity meteoroid impacts on harness segments to be inspected and analyzed for damage. The contractor shall provide the following information: 1. The condition of the shield and the shield relative distance to exposed wires. (quantify the threat of shield shorting to wire) 2. The condition of the wire, (quantify the risk of severed wire) 3. Photograph the impact site damage at various stages of disassembly for the cryogenically cooled harness segments, the contractor shall provide the following information: 1. Are there cracks or other evidence of additional damage or different damage relative to the warm impact sites. (quantify threat difference of cryogenic impacts relative to warm impacts) deliverables: failure analysis reports for the meteoroid impact site in the harness, due no later than february 21, 2008 or two weeks after receipt of the harness for testing. Deliverables address: the deliverables shall be sent via email to the following. Compatibility/readability issues shall be worked out in advance by both parties (i.e., the contractor and the government). Mitchell davis 301-286-4114
