About this award
The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute awarded a purchase order to Nikon Instruments Inc. for $470,736.24 on August 2, 2017, for a Nikon TIRF microscope with Yokogawa W1 spinning disk confocal system. Performance is in Melville, New York. The system enables the Cell Biology and Physiology Center to measure actin and focal adhesion dynamics in cell migration studies by combining total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy with confocal imaging to achieve high signal-to-noise detection and rejection of out-of-focus light in thick samples. The order is firm fixed price with an ultimate completion date of October 31, 2017.
Description
The cell biology and physiology center cbpc is in need of a nikon tirf microscope with a yokogawa W1 spinning disk in order to measure the dynamics of actin and focal adhesions in its cell migration studies. Tirf microscopy is needed to allow cbpc researchers to have very high signal to noise when compared to conventional widefield microscopy. The yokogawa W1 spinning disk is needed to accompany the tirf microscope in order to allow researchers to image thick samples and remove out of focus light. The combination of confocal and tirf microscopy will provide a powerful tool to give researchers insight into the studies of dynamics of actin and focal adhesions.
