The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) awarded a sole source contract to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), a private non-profit organization, to conduct a "Threat-Forecasting Workshop". The $291,890 contract does not have a set-aside designation. The workshop will bring together academic and private sector participants to discuss rare event prediction methods and techniques that could support DTRA's mission and product development. As a non-profit established by Congress, NAS is uniquely positioned to host the discussions and report the results impartially to DTRA and Congress. The contract scope requires NAS to coordinate the workshop and identify applicable forecasting methods from other fields that may benefit DTRA's work. This contract award is not associated with a larger vehicle.
