The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program Phase I contract to Environmental & Life Support Technology (E L S), a limited liability company, to develop flow-through silver biocide delivery devices for long-duration space missions. The $125,000.00 firm-fixed-price contract aims to optimize the epidemiological, chemical, and mechanical features of silver compounds to provide high antimicrobial effectiveness, low toxicity, simple integration, maximum operational life, and superior mass/volume efficiency for advanced life support systems. The work will build upon existing controlled-release technology and investigate a regenerative approach to maintaining device activity over multi-year operational lifetimes.
