This is a firm fixed price purchase order issued by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Shared Services Center to Dioxide Materials, Inc. (Dioxide), a small business. The objective is to adapt Dioxide's carbon dioxide (CO2) electrolyzers, currently being developed under support from the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E), for NASA missions. The work will focus on modifying Dioxide's proprietary polymer-based electrolyzers to operate with minimal water and withstand higher differential pressures. This $125,000 Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract was awarded on July 27, 2018, with a completion date of February 15, 2019. Dioxide has previously received federal awards from the Department of Energy and Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy to support the development of carbon capture and conversion technologies.
