Space Flight Closeout Crew Vehicle
NASA Kennedy Space Center has awarded a sole-source contract on September 24, 2026, to procure one used, highly modified Ford F-59 vehicle with delivery-style body for the Space Flight Closeout Crew in support of Artemis mission requirements, with an anticipated acquisition cost of approximately $70,000.
The justification cites FAR 6.302-2 (Unusual and Compelling Urgency) and 10 U.S.C. 3204(a)(2). NASA determined that the vehicle's specialized cargo-area modifications are mission-critical and already operationally integrated into Artemis launch processing activities at Kennedy Space Center. Replicating these modifications on an alternative vehicle would require significant time and financial resources for procurement, fabrication, installation, testing, and operational validation that would disrupt Artemis campaign timelines. Limited market research with GSA consultation identified no alternative sources capable of providing equivalent mission-specific modifications within the required timeframe. The vehicle is currently leased through Enterprise Rent-A-Car and supports Exploration Ground Systems Closeout Crew operations.
The Contracting Officer determined the cost fair and reasonable. No public solicitation will occur. The original purchase order 80KSC026P0011 was rescinded and replaced with purchase order 80KSC026P0014 due to an administrative system obligation issue that did not alter the requirement, scope, pricing, or contractor selection.
