The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) awarded a firm fixed-price purchase order contract worth $23,800.00 to Bristol Bay Telephone Cooperative Inc., a non-profit telecommunications provider, to deliver telephone and internet services to the Alaska Peninsula and Becharof National Wildlife Refuge offices. The contract, which has a performance period ending on March 31, 2024, was awarded on a sole-source basis under the authority of FAR 6.302-1 "Only One Responsible Source." The FWS determined that Bristol Bay Telephone Cooperative is the sole provider of landline telephone services in King Salmon, Alaska, where the refuges are located. This contract does not have a small business set-aside designation. In addition to this contract, Bristol Bay Telephone Cooperative has received other federal awards, including a $34.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service to expand broadband access and telemedicine services in rural communities around King Salmon.
