Description
This is the northern kentucky university institutional CO-i proposal for the analysis of crest 2012 flight data. In this proposal, the crest team will seek support for completion of the analysis of data from the JAN 2012 LDB flight of the crest instrument. Crest (cosmic RAY electron synchrotron telescope) is designed to explore the high energy cosmic RAY electron spectrum in the energy range 2 TEV to 50 TEV, beyond the limits of current measurements. Using a novel technique for obtaining a detector acceptance substantially larger than the physical size of the detector, crest also features an intrinsically low susceptibility to the hadronic backgrounds that traditionally plague electron measurements. Data analysis, which began following receipt of the data disks in late march 2012, is proceeding well, and all indications are that the instrument performed as expected during its 10 day flight. The proposal will support the completion of this analysis effort, to assess for the first time the multi-TEV cosmic electron landscape.
