Description
Pulsar magnetosphere models and high energy emission we propose to investigate global, self-consistent magnetosphere models of rotation-powered pulsars where the charges and currents are self-consistently supplied by pair cascades. High-resolution magnetosphere simulations, that include finite conductivity and dissipation, will be coupled with self-consistent, time-dependent simulations of particle acceleration and pair production to determine global field structures. We will then test the global models through comparison of simulated high-energy light curves and phaseresolved spectra with fermi pulsar data, with the strong constraints of PC heating with x-RAY data from XMM and chandra, and with population synthesis studies of radio and gamma-RAY pulsars. We also plan simulations of pair cascades in magnetar fields to model the phase-resolved high-energy emission and magnetospheres of anomalous x-RAY pulsars and soft gamma-RAY repeaters and compare with data from rxte, integral and nustar.
