Description

Fredericksburg high school s aeroscience program (fhsap) has been challenged by two factors which limit its potential for replication and dissemination as a state, pre-engineering program; nozzle and fuel grain fabrication. During the 2007-2008 school year, students in the aeroscience program used data from the previous years research to successfully fabricate a 45-pound, seven-port, htpb fuel grain for use in the 2008 REDBIRD11. The REDBIRD11 was successfully tested in may of 2008, producing 2,000-LBF of thrust using the htpb fuel grain designed and developed by the students to loft a stanford payload research. Research and testing are still underway concerning nozzle issues to complete the original proposed research from 2004 to continue replication of the program nationwide in the future.
