Description

1. Produce lightcurves for as many NEA and inner main belt asteroids as possible (80-150 per year). Emphasis will shift away (but not completely) from finding periods for previously undetermined asteroids towards obtaining additional dense lightcurves to be used in shape and spin axis modeling. 2. We will concentrate efforts on asteroid families for the purpose of determining spin axis rates and orientations. The model yarkovsky drift predicts that family members inside of the middle should spin retrograde while those outside should spin prograde. We intend to test this hypothesis. 3. When possible, through our efforts or working with colleagues with larger instruments, we will obtain lightcurves on the recently discovered asteroid pairs with the primary purpose being that of determining spin rates and axis orientations. Such work will be ongoing since IT will take several apparitions and/or sparse data from large surveys. 4. We will obtain calibrated data and color indices on a number of asteroids (-50-100 per year) in order to determine H-G parameters. The targets will include, but are not limited to, those mentioned above. 5. We will continue to maintain the lightcurve data base and make at least one formal release (FULLY-VETTED) once a year. Intermediate releases (as-is) will be issued from time-to-time between the formal releases. 6. We will continue coordinate lightcurve observations using the call web site and writing regular articles for the minor planet bulletin where we highlight those asteroids that are at particularly favorable apparitions or in need special attention, e.g., low-phase angle, shape model candidates, or in support of radar observations. Furthermore, we will work with colleagues who have access to larger telescopes to obtain data on program targets and targets of opportunity that are not within reach of our instruments. 7. We will continue studies of spin evolution and binary dynamics using the newly acquired data. A study of spin rate distribution versus size connecting the D50 KM asteroids is already in progress.
