About this award
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) awarded a $778,563 grant to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for research relating to mapping global wildland urban interface (WUI) hotspots. As the prime contractor, the University of Wisconsin System, through its University of Wisconsin-Madison division, will deliver research and analysis to develop the first global WUI hotspots map. The research aims to identify areas where homes are located within or near wildland vegetation, a condition known as the WUI that is widespread and growing but currently lacks comprehensive mapping at a global scale. Performance will take place in Madison, Wisconsin over a two-year period ending in December 2023.
