Description

Optimization of aircraft laser coating-the purpose of this overall task will be to develop, demonstrate and validate a specific and optimized robotic laser coating removal operational parameters for the F-16 and C-130 weapon systems for the 309 maintenance wing at hill, air force base (AFB), UT. These operational parameters are necessary to safely and optimally strip the F-16 and C-130 specific aircraft coatings. The optimization will be to minimize maintenance flow time, operational labor requirements, environmental waste and programmed depot maintenance (PDM) operational risks (e.g., hazardous waste generation and employee safety) and extraneous PDM airframe movements. This task will ensure the laser stripping optimized parameters do not impact airframe substrate S physical or mechanical characteristics. This task will demonstrate optimization of the operational parameters using an existing air force research laboratory (AFRL) robotic laser stripping system prototype previously developed by the contractor. This task includes the optimization of operational parameters for the supplemental laser coating removal systems. These systems include hand held laser units, and the laser automated depaint system (LADS-II) off-air-frame component laser depaint system. These systems are vital to the success of the F-16 and C-130 systems. They are necessary to depaint the areas of the aircraft (a/C) that cannot be accessed by the full a/C robotic system. These supplemental systems are also needed to process the components that must be removed from the a/C for depainting.
