Description

POL/UST site investigation, FT riley the project provides for environmental investigations at three POL sites and groundwater monitoring at two POL sites at fort riley, kansas. Site investigations are to be accomplished at the following three sites: building 388 is the current post military gasoline station. During a dual phase extraction (DPE)/soil vapor extraction (SVE) pilot study conducted in october 2008, methylene chloride was detected in air samples at levels ranging from 990 to 4900 ppbv. IT is possible the source of this contaminant is adjacent building 386 that is a vehicle maintenance shop. An investigation is to be conducted under this project to determine if contamination is present and, if present, the nature and extent of that contamination. Building 1460 is the site of three underground storage tanks (USTS). There are two fuels USTS on the east side of the site. On the west side of 1460, there is an 'abandoned in place' used oil UST that is still open in the kdhe-ncdo database. An investigation is to be conducted under this project to determine if contamination is present at this site and, if present, the nature and extent of that contamination. Building 2597 is an active army air force exchange service (AAFES) gasoline station. There are two 'abandoned in place' fuels USTS. There was soils contamination present during the abandoning process. The kdhe-ncdo requires a soil/ground-water investigation to determine the amount and extent of the contamination. Groundwater monitoring is to be conducted at the following sites: building 388 is the current post military gasoline station. Groundwater samples are to be collected from existing monitoring wells 388MW06-07, 388MW94-04, & 388MW95-06 and analyzed for fuels related vocs under this project. Building 5320 is the current custer hill AAFES gasoline station. There is residual contamination from USTS that have been removed. Groundwater samples are to be collected from existing monitoring wells 5320MW03, 5320MW06-01, and 5329MW06-06 and analyzed for fuels related vocs under this project.
