Description

TAR 4603 spider XM7-the spider NCM is comprised of four main hardware components: a remote control unit (RCU), an RCU transceiver (rcut), a repeater, and munition control units (mcus). The soldier uses the RCU to control the hand-emplaced spider components (mcus) that comprise a spider obstacle as a hasty protective or a protective barrier, and to monitor and control the functioning of the mcus in the obstacle during and subsequent to hostilities. The repeater is a relay device that is optionally used to extend the range of control of the RCU over the munitions in an obstacle or to overcome difficult terrain. The mcus contain the munitions and are strategically placed to provide the protective capability of an obstacle. Six miniature grenade launchers (mgls) provide the lethal capability of the spider system and are attached to the MCU. Once a munition field is emplaced, the RCU operator will establish a communications signal link that will allow the employing unit to prepare and transmit electronic munition field information and record reports. Spider extended range tripline sensors can be remotely deployed with emplaced mcus to provide alerts whenever an intruder into the munition field approaches an MCU. The RCU operator can transfer munition field information via removable media to the unit s battle command system. The variable height antenna mast (vham) can be used in place of the current spider long range antenna to increase the range of control of munition fields. Munition adaptor modules (mams) can be used in place of mgls to fire attached explosive devices such as the M18 claymore mine and the M5 modular crowd control munition (mccm). The shock tube initiation capability (stic) may be used to increase the range between the emplaced claymores/ mccms and the mcus to which they are attached.
