About this award
The United States Marine Corps (USMC) awarded a $550,104.00 Delivery Order contract to Redstone Defense Systems, an Alaskan Native Corporation Owned Firm, to inspect the clevises and remove/replace the elevation pivot bolts on the entire fleet of High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) vehicles. This contract, which does not have a set-aside designation, is a Cost Plus Fixed Fee contract with a completion date of September 30, 2021. The need for this work arose after cracks were discovered on three Army HIMARS launchers in 2014, leading to an investigation by the Precision Fires Rocket and Missile Systems (PFRMS) team that included the Prototype Integration Facility (PIF) and the HIMARS manufacturer, Lockheed Martin. The PIF has been tasked with inspecting and retrofitting the USMC HIMARS launcher fleet to address the identified issue.
Description
The united states marine corps (USMC) has a requirement to inspect the clevises and remove/replace the elevation pivot bolts on the entire fleet of high mobility artillery rocket systems (HIMARS) vehicles. In the fall of 2014, cracks were discovered on three army launchers. An investigation led by precision fires rocket and missile systems (PFRMS) was conducted through the remainder of 2014 and into 2015. The investigation team included the prototype integration facility (PIF) and the HIMARS manufacturer, lockheed martin. The root cause of the cracking was determined and a PIF design modification to the pivot bolt is being implemented to correct the issue.
