THE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS PERFORMANCE WORK STATEMENT (PWS) WILL BE FOR A WALK-DOWN AND SCOPING SURVEYS, WHICH WILL ENABLE THE CONTRACTOR TO SEE THE PHYSICAL LAYOUT OF THE AREA AND TO TRY AND ROUGHLY DEFINE THE AREAS OF POTENTIAL CONTAMINATION FOR FUTURE REQUIREMENTS. A DETAILED CHARACTERIZATION SURVEY (OF THE ENTIRE BUILDING AREA), BASED ON PAST HISTORICAL DATA AND THIS WALK-DOWN/BIASED SCOPING SURVEY, WILL BE USED TO DETERMINE THE NATURE AND EXTENT OF THE CONTAMINATION WHICH MAY REQUIRE FURTHER REMEDIATION AND DISPOSAL OF RADIOLOGICAL DERIVED LOW LEVEL RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS AND THEN A FINAL STATUS SURVEY (FSS) AND FINAL REPORT. THE SUSPECTED RADIOLOGICAL ISOTOPE OF CONCERN IS THORIUM (TH-232) BUT RADIOLOGICAL SURVEYS AND SAMPLING SHOULD BE USED TO DETERMINE IF ANY OTHER ISOTOPE(S) OR HAZARDOUS MATERIALS ARE PRESENT.
