About this award
This federal contract award was issued by the Langley Research Center, a civilian agency of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), to The Boeing Company. The $14,058,676.00 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract is for the design, refinement, and wind tunnel testing of a long-range, transonic, truss-braced wing aircraft concept as part of NASA's N+3 advanced technology research program.
The contract includes options to develop a low-speed high-lift configuration and conduct additional wind tunnel testing. This award is a delivery order under the Basic and Applied Aerospace Research and Technology (BAART) indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract vehicle. The contract does not have a small business set-aside designation. Major subcontractor Tri Models Inc., a small business, has been issued multiple subcontracts to fabricate specialized wind tunnel models and hardware to support the aerodynamic testing efforts.
Description
Transonic truss-braced wing high-speed and low-speed design and tests the scope of this task is to refine the design of a long-range cruise m=0.8 n+3 ttbw aircraft with high-fidelity tools for high-speed conditions and incorporate any lessons learned from recent wind tunnel test data obtained, and conduct a high-speed wind tunnel test. Develop the low speed high lift configuration for a m=0.8 configuration if options are exercised. An additional optional objective is to gather experimental data for the low speed configuration via wind tunnel test.to develop an advanced, n+3 long-range cruise m=0.8 conventional tube-and-wing configuration which utilizes an equivalent level of advanced airframe and engine technology as the m=0.8 n+3 truss-braced wing concept design (scope 2.1 - 1. Above).
