About this award
This is a delivery order contract awarded by the Langley Research Center, a civilian agency within NASA, to The Boeing Company's Engineering, Test & Technology Division to advance the state-of-the-art for predictive noise modeling at the aircraft system level. The contract, which is part of the Basic and Applied Aerospace Research and Technology (BAART) Indefinite Delivery Vehicle (IDV), has a ceiling value of $130,032.00 and will involve measuring the acoustic performance of a Boeing 787 testbed aircraft during the 2019 EcoDemonstrator flight test campaign. The purpose is to acquire flight acoustic data to test NASA's system noise assessment tools and develop improved models for airframe noise sources and propulsion-airframe aeroacoustics. This effort does not have a small business set-aside designation.
Description
The aatt project would like to advance the state-of-the-art for predictive noise modeling at the aircraft system level by acquiring flight acoustic data from relevant aircraft in order to test NASA s system noise assessment tools, as well as for development of improved models for airframe noise sources and for the understanding of propulsion-airframe aeroacoustics phenomena. This effort will involve measuring acoustic performance of a test aircraft. Due to the ability to acquire data for different configurations of the aircraft and the ability to instrument the aircraft, these tests will provide data unique to NASA to enable more confidence in the ability of the models to predict noise for aircraft including unconventional configurations and technology. This modeling capability is highly critical to the aatt project. The project is interested in pursuing flight tests expected to occur in 2019 with a B787 testbed aircraft during the ecodemonstrator 2019 flight test. A study with the boeing company is requested to establish the feasibility of adding system noise and PAA objectives to the existing boeing 2019 flight test campaign. The feasibility study includes developing preliminary plans for aircraft test flight matrices, ground instrumentation, aircraft instrumentation, and aircraft data that would be required to accomplish the objectives. Also included in this study is the feasibility of obtaining additional flight test data taken during previous flight tests which will provide sufficient information to support or add to the desired objectives. A final objective is to develop a preliminary cost of the proposed NASA flight test with a schedule that will integrate the NASA plan into the boeing s existing 2019 campaign schedule.
