About this award

NASA's Langley Research Center issued a delivery order to National Institute Of Aerospace Associates on June 7, 2018, with a ceiling value of $922,615, under the NIA IDIQ contract (NNL13AA08B) to conduct non-destructive evaluation and acoustic emission research on aerospace materials and structures.

The order supports NASA's research into damage detection methods for metal, composite, and novel materials across structural types ranging from components to full-scale assemblies, including applications to the Orion Crew Module, pressure vessels, and next-generation space vehicles and satellites. Work is performed in Hampton, VA on a cost-plus-fixed-fee basis with an ultimate completion date of May 31, 2023.

In fiscal year 2023, the most recent reported period, the order consumed 0.4 FTEs across 917 contractor hours invoiced at $119.99 per hour. The awardee self-performed all reported labor with no subcontractors. Government-paid hourly rates rose across the performance period, from $58.97/hour in FY2021 to $119.99/hour in FY2023.

Description

Studies of material damage through non-destructive techniques support NASA langley research center in research related to the study of material and structural damage through non-destructive evaluation (NDE) in general and acoustic emission (AE) in particular. The objective is to advance NDE methods as testing processes in support of materials and structures research, development, and applications. The work arises from multiple sources within or related to NASA s missions and can support numerous material types (metal, composite, or new and unique materials) and structural types (from components to full structures) that may involve novel complexities. Of interest are many structures for aeronautics and the next generation of space vehicles and satellites, which include the orion crew module, complex multilayered pressure vessels, structural composite test structures, and test structures that are yet to be named. This effort continues the work conducted under NIA IDIQ contract NNL13AA08B, task order NNL14AA69T.
