About this award

NASA Langley Research Center issued a delivery order to National Institute of Aerospace Associates on May 10, 2018, with a ceiling value of $845,210 for Revolutionary Aviation Technologies Branch material development support under a cost-plus-fixed-fee pricing structure.

The order supports NASA Langley's research into innovative materials technologies including electromagnetic measurements, structural composites, multifunctional materials, nanocomposites, low-temperature elastomeric materials, novel coatings, and inorganic-organic hybrids. The contractor works in conjunction with NASA Langley researchers to complete program objectives and milestones. Place of performance is Hampton, VA.

The order's period of performance extends through May 31, 2023. Service Contract Inventory data shows labor scaled over five fiscal years: FY2021 reported 0.9 FTEs and 1,926 contractor hours at $29.82/hr; by FY2023, invoiced labor reached 1.5 FTEs across 3,075 contractor hours at $66.09/hr, reflecting a rising hourly rate trend. In FY2023 the contractor self-performed all reported hours without subcontractor engagement. Cumulative invoiced amounts across FY2018 through FY2023 totaled $476 thousand.

Description

Revolutionary aviation technologies branch (ratb) material development support. The mission of the revolutionary aviation technology branch is to identify, research, and develop innovative technologies and methodologies that will revolutionize the performance and capabilities of future air vehicles. To accomplish this, the branch: 1) investigates and matures high-risk, high-payoff technologies by conducting experimental and computational research 2) develops, performs, assesses, and applies advanced experimental and computational methods and 3) conducts multidisciplinary systems analysis studies to identify critical enabling technologies and to determine the system-level benefits of these emerging technologies. Aircraft performance has become increasingly dependent on advanced materials technologies. The new paradigm in performance demands multi-functionality of materials systems while maintaining or increasing strength and durability. Research performed under this task will focus on technology development areas including but not limited to electromagnetic measurements, structural composites, multifunctional materials, nanocomposites, low temperature elastomeric materials, novel coatings, and novel inorganic-organic hybrids. The contractor will work in conjunction with NASA langley research center researchers to complete the program objectives and milestones.
