About this award
This is a delivery order contract awarded by the Langley Research Center (a civilian agency) to The Aerospace Corporation, a non-profit federally funded research and development center (FFRDC). The $146,856 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract is for a "Multi Purpose Crew Vehicle Nonlinear Deep Dive" effort, which involves analyzing the structural test data of the European Service Module to identify and address nonlinearities in the vehicle's interconnects and internal modules. This work supports the verification loads and analyses for the Multipurpose Crew Vehicle, likely related to NASA's Artemis human spaceflight program. The contract does not have a set-aside designation, reflecting The Aerospace Corporation's broad technical capabilities in providing specialized engineering, scientific research, and advisory services to major government space agencies.
Description
Multi purpose crew vehicle nonlinear deep dive. Based on observations of the multi purpose crew vehicle nonlinear deep dive european service model structural test article test data, the model response is being driven by nonlinearities in the interconnects between and internal to the eurorpean service model. The problem is made more difficult due to the size and internal stiffness of the modules themselves. These stiffness and loss factors need to be definitively identified in time for the verification loads and analyses to lower the static equivalent loads sufficiently to establish positive margins. Distinct approaches are included for consideration on the path forward in modal test of the multi purpose crew vehicle stack on a flight equivalent MSA and for correlation in the static test. Several joints will be assessed for nonlinear behavior from the static test evaluation.
